15.10 – Penkridge Handicap – 6f

A tightly-knit handicap to start proceedings in which shrewd trainer, Ronald Harris, has two entered that hold leading claims.

Firstly, ELZAAM’S DREAM, who won’t find this easy to win, primarily down to the fact that he has to burden top-weight, but on the flip side, has sound each-way claims. Essentially, the in-form David Probert has been booked to ride (7-44 in last 14 days) and his mount likes it around here with form figures over this trip reading 6, 2, 1 and 2.

His stablemate I’M WATCHING YOU remains less exposed than most of these and has run well over C&D twice, including last time despite being guilty of doing far too much early on and ultimately ran out of steam towards the finish. He remains unexposed and very much of interest under Adam Kirby.

Of the remainder, JUNGLE BELLS hasn’t managed to get involved in three starts this term, but has shown glimpses of promise both times at this track. Charles Bishop has an outstanding record when having his only ride of the day (same applied here) and David Evans four-year-old is a potential improver now handicapping.

15.40 – Play 4 To Score At Betway Classified Stakes – 5f

Another competitive event on this afternoon’s card and AMAZING AMANYA has a good chance of bouncing back to form. She was narrowly denied on her penultimate outing over C&D in a similar event and Luke Morris is an interesting jockey booking.

MANSFIELD was a little below-form when fifth over C&D earlier this month but has invariably gone well here in the past. A former course-and-distance winner with Hollie Doyle booked to ride, this veteran has a decent each-way chance.

OH SO NICE looked on good terms with herself when returning from a break to finish second over C&D earlier this month and, given the winner is now rated 66, she’s expected to be thereabouts with Tom Marquand taking the reins.

16.10 – Betway Handicap – 1m4f

The feature race of the day looks highly-competitive but I’m hopeful AUTUMN WAR can bring up the hat-trick. Ian Williams’ charge has won his last two races impressively at this track. The form has been upheld several times since having beaten two next-time-out winners in his latest victory and he should make another bold bid.

My Girl Maggie has been in good form of late and is the other representative seeking a hat-trick having produced a career-best here 22 days ago. She’s expected to go well again under Richard Kingscote given the remainder of the field are difficult to assess.

Selections: AUTUMN WAR

16.40 – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Fillies’ Novice Stakes – 1m1f

ATACAMENA is bred to be useful and has to be feared here if overcoming a wide-berth on debut for connections. She’s related to several useful winners and her trainer, Simon Crisford, is operating at a fairly decent strike-rate to boost her claims.

Of the other newcomers, Michael Meade has the beautifully-bred TECHNIQUE, who is interesting being a daughter of the high-class Mastercraftsman. It’s not often you see this stable start a two-year-old at this track, but if she’s half as talented as her breeding suggests, there’s a chance she could outclass this field.

17.10 – betyourway At Betway Handicap – 1m1f

FINOAH is far from reliable but should be able to utilise this easier opportunity to gain an overdue success. He’s 14Ib lower than when last successful in a handicap and has not been seen in this grade since bolting up at Redcar last year. The five-year-old looks very well handicapped on a mark of 75 and looks set to run a big race.

Interestingly, Richard Kingscote takes the ride on PRECISION TIME, who was onboard the four-year-old when the pair struck over C&D back in November. Last time out, he finished a creditable second at this track and is only 1Ib higher here which seems fairly generous.

17.40 – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Classified Stakes – 1m1f

DEADLY ACCURATE looked on the way back to form when fourth of 13 ten days ago on stable debut for Ronald Harris, keeping on strongly once the penny dropped and has surprisingly been eased 3Ib in the handicap as a result. A similar performance here might be enough to see him regain the winning thread.

NORWEGIAN RED could surprise a few at a double-figure price. He’s yet to hit the ground running for connections but now pitched into calmer waters with improvement to come, this four-year-old could offer a bit of value.
