On Saturday, Nov. 14, the boxer that many consider the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Terence “Bud” Crawford, highlights a fantastic day and night of boxing action. Crawford will throw down against United Kingdom star fighter Kell Brook in a championship bout at the MGM Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier in the day, five terrific fights happen at Wembley Arena in London. Boxing Lines – Brooks versus Crawford Highlights This Weekend’s Action
- When: Saturday, Nov.14
Wembley Arena, London, UK
- Jack Cullen +350 / John Docherty -500
Longshot Cullen is a tall super middleweight. He’s 6’ 3”. What’s interesting about Cullen, and the reason he’s an underdog here, is that he doesn’t use his height or his length to his advantage. In his last loss, to Felix Cash last November, Cullen continued to fight with his hands close to his head. When a boxer has a length advantage, he or she should hold their jabbing arm slightly forward to gauge distance. Southpaw John Docherty can fight with both hands. He’s got a ton of power as evidenced by his 7 knockouts from 9 wins record. But he doesn’t have Cullen’s experience. If Jack uses his length, and, hopefully, he’ll do that on Saturday, he can pull off the upset win.
Boxing Free Pick: Jack Cullen
- Jermaine Springer +500 / Thomas Whittaker-Hart -800
The 7-1 Springer has just a single knockout on his record. That could spell trouble against Thomas Whittaker-Hart. Although Thomas has just 4 wins, he’s undefeated and has knocked out both of his opponents. Whittaker-Hart figures to impose his will from the outset.
Boxing Free Pick: Jermaine Springer
- Jorgelina Guanini +190 / Rachel Ball -240
28-year-old Jorgelina Guanini has 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws. She’s a slight underdog against Rachel Ball, who has a 6-1 record. Neither has power. But Guanini has the experience and the odds indicate this should be a close fight, making Jorgelina the play.
Boxing Free Pick: Jorgelina Guanini
- Katharina Thanderz +350 / Terri Harper -400
Thanderz has a fantastic 13-0 record with 2 knockouts. The reason she’s such a big underdog in this bout is because 24-year-old Terri Harper is 10-0 with 5 knockouts and a draw. Harper is patient. She won’t put herself in unnecessary danger. Sounds counterintuitive, but that could help Thanderz. Katharina has a 2 ½” reach advantage. If she uses her reach advantage, and she’s shown an ability to do so in previous fights, she can beat Harper.
Boxing Free Pick: Katharina Thanderz
- Katie Taylor -2500 / Miriam Gutierrez +1000
In another fight between a couple of undefeated boxers, 34-year-old Katie Taylor is a massive favorite over Miriam Gutierrez. Although the odds on Miriam do make her an overlay, any boxer can beat the other if she connects with the right punch, Taylor has too much speed. Unless Miriam gets in a lucky punch, Katie should take this bout on Saturday.
Boxing Free Pick: Katie Taylor
MGM Grand Conference Center – Las Vegas, NV
- Kell Brook +850 / Terence “Bud” Crawford -1700
Kell Brook is a terrific fighter. He’s got a 39-2 record for a reason. The only two boxers that have bested Brook are Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr. Brook says Teofimo Lopez’s win over Vasiliy Lomachenko has inspired him. Kell believes he can pull off the upset against Terence Crawford. However, there’s a huge difference between Brook versus Crawford and Lopez versus Loma.
Teofimo was the bigger opponent when he stepped into the ring against Vasiliy. He was also 15-0 with 12 knockouts. Because he was the bigger, stronger man, Teo could push Loma around the ring.
There’s no way Kell pushes Bud around the ring on Saturday night. Crawford has pinpoint accuracy, power in both hands, and in his last fight, Brook kept his left low. If he does that on Nov. 14, forget it. Terence will knock him out in the first round. Crawford should send Kell Brook into retirement after Saturday’s top boxing match.
Boxing Free Pick: Terence Crawford
