The Hoosiers Breeders Sophomore Stakes Betting Preview and FREE PLAY – Wednesday, July 8, 2020

The $75,000 Hoosiers Breeders Sophomore Stakes is set to run as Race 7 on the July 8 card at Indiana Grand Race Course.

The event for Indiana bred three-year-olds will cover a distance of 1 1/16 miles and include names like Two Last Words and Cash for Gold leading the field.

Here is a look at the runners set for the Hoosiers Breeders Sophomore Stakes.

Two Last Words, Cash for Gold

Deann Baer’s Two Last Words is coming in as the favorite with a morning line at 2/1.

Trained by Tim Glyshaw, the son of Commissioner has a career record of 4-1-1 from nine career starts and earnings of $151,079.

The gelding scored an allowance race last time out on June 25 at Indiana Grand Race Course, and before that he took a May 8 allowance optional claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs.

He put forth an eighth place effort in his last stakes race, which was the Nov. 30 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. The impressive runner also scored the Hillsdale Stakes (Black Type) back on Sept. 11, 2019 at the track.

Two Last Words will break from the outside post 9 under jockey Fernando De La Cruz.

He will face off against Marvin Johnson’s Cash for Gold.

Also trained by Johnson, the gelding son of Gold for Cash only has run in two races, but they were both victories.

His earnings are at $40,500.

The most recent victory of the two was an allowance race on June 18 at the track, and the other was a maiden special weight here on Sept. 4, 2019.

Cash for Gold will break form post 6 under jockey Rodney Prescott. His morning line is at 9/2, making him the second choice.

Mai Tai’s Gem

Rancho Monarca’s Mai Tai’s Gem will be looking to outrun the top two horses, coming in at 5/1.

Trained by Antonio Duran, the gelding son of Gemologist has a career record of 2-1-0 from three starts and earnings of $95,645.

Mai Tai’s Gem will be making his 2020 debut.

His best performance was his most recent, which was a victory in the Nov. 5 Indiana Futurity (Black Type) at Indiana Grand Race Course.

Mai Tai’s Gem also finished second in the Sept. 11 Hillsdale Stakes (Black Type) and first in a Aug. 17 maiden special weight, both at the track as well.

He will break from post 7 under jockey Deshawn Parker.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Idea Man (post 1, 20/1); Devil’s Cross (post 2, 20/1); Chipoddtheoldblock (post 3, 6/1); Nutty Train (post 4, 10/1); Strong Tide (post 5, 5.1); and Expressed (post 8, 20/1).
