The $75,000 Hoosier Breeders Sophomore Filly Stakes is set to run as the opening race on the July 8 card at Indiana Grand Race Course.
The event for Indiana bred three-year-old fillies will cover a distance of 1 1/16 miles and include names like Cooper Nickel and Wellington Wonder among the field of six.

Copper Nickel, Wellington Wonder
Frank Brown, Mike South, and Doris Book’s Copper Nickel is coming in as the heavy favorite with a morning line at 3/5.
Trained by Michael Lauer, the daughter of Stroll has a career record of 3-0-1 from seven starts and earnings of $106,670.
The filly’s last performance was an allowance victory on June 23 at Indiana Grand. Before that, she took fifth in an April 23 allowance optional claiming race and fourth in another on April 2, both at Oaklawn Park.
Copper Nickel’s only stakes race came back on Nov. 5, 2019, when she finished first in the Miss Indiana Stakes (Black Type) here.
She will break from post 1 under jockey Luiz Saez.
Jerry Romans, Charlie Spiring, and Zoom and Fish Stable’s Wellington Wonder is coming in at 4/1.
Trained by Michelle Lovell, the daughter of Warrior’s Reward has a career record of 0-1-1 from three starts and earnings of $17,630.
The filly finished third in a June 25 maiden claiming race at Churchill Downs and sixth in a Nov. 16 maiden special weight there as well.
Her only other start was a second place effort in a Sept. 28 maiden special weight race, also at Churchill Downs.
Wellington Wonder will break from post 6 under jockey Alex Archard.
Shes the Cause
Ronald Saunders’ Shes the Cause is another top contender coming in at 9/2.
Trained by Anoronio Duran, the daughter of Creative Cause has a career record of 2-1-0 from four starts and earnings of $87,392.
The filly’s last performance was an allowance victory on June 17 at the track. She also finished seventh in the Nov, 5 Miss Indiana Stakes (Black Type) and scored the Sept. 11 City of Anderson Stakes (Black Type) here as well.
She’s the Cause will break from post 5 under jockey Deshawn Parker.
The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Emily Lane (post 2, 6/1); Dontyouremember (post 3, 20/1); and Mintchocolatechip (post 4, 20/1).
