Odds & Picks by US books: Sarah Moras (-240) vs. Vanessa Melo (+200)
The first UFC women’s bout of 2021 will feature Sarah Moras and Vanessa Melo, a bout where it looks easier to pick who’s less likely to win rather than a frontrunner to win given their recent records.
Melo (10-8) has lost all three of her bouts as a UFC combatant to date, struggling with her step up to the big leagues after winning her previous five fights under regional promotions. Moras (6-6) has also struggled of late and lost four of her last five fights, though she boasts the more recent victory thanks to a ground-and-pound victory over Liana Jojua in September 2019.
Moras leads as -240 moneyline frontrunner with William Hill, but New Jersey bettors may be more interested in her +800 price to win via KO/TKO instead. ‘Cheesecake’ has collected more MMA wins by those means than any other, and while two of her three KO/TKO wins came after making her debut in 2010 and 2012, her wrestling-heavy tactics generally put her in positions to bombard several times per fight.
Melo hasn’t been stopped since her first career defeat back in May 2012, but the dread of knowing the loser of this bout may not be long for the UFC is liable to conjure up a surprise.
