Online Gaming Firms Ready To Spend Big This IPL Season

Media buyers have estimated that online gaming companies and firms are going to be spending a massive amount of money on advertising during the 2020 IPL season. The amount is expected to be somewhere between 300 Crores ($40 million)

The IPL 2020 season is also expected to have an even larger audience due to the fact that the whole nation has been starved of any sporting action due to the pandemic. The cricket showpiece starts off from the 19th of September.

Star India is anticipating to advertise on its live sports inventory and streaming site Disney + Hostar to be driven by the most prominent gaming names in India. These include the new title sponsor of the IPL, Dream11, plus Mobile Premier League (MPL), MyCircle11, and Ballebaazi. PokerStars India and Ludo King are also expected to leverage the popularity of the tournament to promote their products.

Navin Khemka, CEO of MediaCom South Asia, said,

“IPL coinciding with the festive season gives these platforms a huge opportunity to promote themselves and strengthen e-sports and fantasy gaming as a category. Apart from a few brands that are already sponsors with team franchisees, I see other players also leveraging IPL through television and digital advertising.”

 MyCircle11, owned by Games24x7, and boasting brand ambassadors such as Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, and Rashid Khan, have committed to serious campaigns.

Avik Das, Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy at Games24x7 said,

“My11Circle will strengthen the ‘Play with champion’ proposition through inventory buys in live IPL matches both on Star Sports network and Disney + Hotstar. Additionally, strategic partnerships with content platforms including CricBuzz, ESPNcricinfo and Lallantop among others will also be done,”

Varun Ganjoo, Marketing Director at Baazi Games quoted,

“Our key strategy will be on acquiring more consumers as during live cricket tournaments our platform witnesses a spike in user traction. Ballebaazi has a user base of 4 million and we plan to double this figure by end of the November,”

The brand new title sponsor of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mobile Premier League (MPL) plans to advertise during the tournament to create awareness and user engagement on the platform.

The rise of the online gaming community in the country has led to exponential growth in the number of online fantasy sports players which is now estimated at over 90 million.

The industry is booming and IPL 2020 is the perfect place for firms to market and advertise their products and services.
