No Big Favorites

The oddsmakers are expecting a lot of competitive games during the holiday weekend as no opening line is larger than seven points.

The visiting Miami Dolphins are favored by that many over the New York Jets. So are the Green Bay Packers at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.

The Dolphins (6-4) had their five-game winning streak snapped Sunday when they were upset 20-13 by the Broncos in Denver as 4-point favorites.

Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa missed a chance to become just the second rookie quarterback in the last 40 years to win his first four starts. He was sacked six times and knocked from the game in the fourth quarter.

The Jets (0-10) remained the NFL’s last winless team as they fell 34-28 on the road to the Los Angeles Chargers, though New York got a late backdoor cover as a 10-point underdog.

Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert burned the Jets for 366 yards and three touchdown passes. Keenan Allen had a team-record 16 receptions.

The Packers (7-3) lost to the Colts 34-31 in overtime in Indianapolis.

Green Bay took a 28-14 halftime lead. However, Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the offense scored just three points in the second half and OT.

The Bears (5-5) had a bye this week and are on a four-game losing streak.

Texans, Raiders Slight Choices

Two road teams are 1.5-point favorites, the smallest lines on the schedule.

The Houston Texans are favored by that many over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving as are the Las Vegas Raiders over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Texans (3-7) pulled off a mild upset Sunday as they downed the visiting New England Patriots 27-20.

Deshaun Watson had 344 yards passing and accounted for three touchdowns to lead Houston. Defensive end J.J. Watt had a career-high four passes defended.

The Lions (4-6) were blanked 20-0 by the Carolina Panthers despite being three-point road favorites.

Detroit was shut out for the first time since 2009. Playing with a thumb injury, Matthew Stafford completed just 18 of 33 passes for 178 yards.

While the Raiders were set to host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, the Falcons (3-7) dropped a 24-9 decision to the Saints at New Orleans as 3.5-point underdogs.

Atlanta’s Matt Ryan had a rough day as he was sacked eight times and intercepted twice.

No Burrow, Low Total

The week’s lowest total is 43.5 points for the New York Giants at Cincinnati Bengals.

Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow sustained a season-ending leg injury Sunday in a 20-9 loss to the Washington Football Team.

Ryan Finley took over at QB and is expected to start against the Giants, who are scoring just 19.5 points a game.

The biggest over/under is 53.5 points for Raiders-Falcons.

The Raiders went into Sunday night averaging 283 points a game and allowing 26.8. The Falcons’ averages are 27.0 and 27.9.

Possible Line Movement

With such a narrow range of lines among the 16 games this week, it seems likely some spreads could see significant movement.

The Giants have opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Bengals. While Burrow is out, that line still seems high considering the Giants are just 3-7.

The Los Angeles Rams are 6.5-point picks over the visiting San Francisco 49ers. Though the 49ers have been racked with injuries, the number is a tad large for a Rams team that has been inconsistent offensively.
