The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are starting their preparation for Week 9, with the Vikings fresh off a bye week. The game starts at 1 pm ET on Sunday inside the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and will be televised on CBS.
Being divisional rivals, the Lions and Vikings have a long history of going head-to-head. They’ve played a total of 117 games against each other, and the Vikings have owned the series between the two with a 76-39-2 record. We’ll see if the Lions can right their wrongs this year.
The Vikings have won the last five matchups, and most of them haven’t been close. The Lions failed to score more than nine points in three of those games, while they gave up 42 and 30 points in the other two. Of course, there’s never been a better year to end that losing streak against Minnesota.
Detroit Lions Betting Preview: Can the Lions Extend Their Win Streak?
Despite their troubles against Minnesota, the Lions find themselves on a two-game win streak heading into their Sunday matchup with the Vikings. That’s the right momentum to have and something they’ll need a lot of ahead of this one.
The Lions are currently sitting at 3-4, just one game above the Vikings. Both teams are on the bottom of the standings, but it’s early enough in the season that either team can turn things around. If the Lions want to do that, they need to get their defense on-track.
Their offense performs rather well, putting up 26.0 points per game and 371.8 yards per game. Unfortunately, their defense allows 27.5 points and 395 yards per game, which is tough to compete with. The good news is they’ve played a lot better during this win-streak.
Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview: Will the Vikings Snap Their Two-Game Losing Streak?
The Minnesota Vikings have a 2-5 record this season but could find themselves tied with the Lions if they win on Sunday. Despite the Vikings playing at home, where they should be comfortable, they’re currently 0-3 at home and are currently on a two-game losing streak.
The Vikings have a similar offense as the Lions, averaging just under 26 points per game and around 385 yards per game. Their defense, however, is far worse. They allow a whopping 32 points per game and over 420 yards of offense. That can’t continue if they want to turn this season around.
With 1,475 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, Kirk Cousins isn’t having a very successful season. The team decided to trade his top option, Stefon Diggs, to the Buffalo Bills this offseason, which certainly isn’t helping. Their replacement for him, Justin Jefferson, is having an incredible season, though.

The Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions aren’t having the season they were hoping for, but it’s not over yet. There’s still plenty of football left, with Sunday marking the halfway point for both of these teams.
I’m a little surprised at the Vikings being favorites. The Lions are on a two-game win-streak and are playing their best football on the road this season (3-1). Meanwhile, the Vikings have lost two in a row and play their worst football at home (0-3).
Final Score 31-20, Detroit Lions.
