NBA Betting Pick: Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers – Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021

Two of the youngest, most inconsistent teams in the league are facing off. What I mean by inconsistent is the Cavaliers had a statement win against the 76ers beating them 118-94 but then the very next night they lost at home to the Knicks 95-86.

The Hawks have the best start to a season since 2013, sitting at 3-1 with their only loss being a 145-141 point loss to the Brooklyn Nets earlier this week. Trae Young is finally looking like the savior and future of this franchise as he’s averaging 33 points per game in the young season.

Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Preview:

The Cavaliers are in the midst of their first, but most certainly not their last, losing streak of the season dropping back to back games to the Knicks and the Pacers this week. There is a glimmer of hope as Collin Sexton continues to grow into the top ten pick he was destined to be.

Sexton is averaging 26 points, 4 assists and 3 boards a game in the early stages of the NBA season. It also doesn’t help that their all-star Power Forward Kevin Love is going to miss a long period of time with a calf strain. It may seem like the season is over before it really gets started but I could see the Cavs being a team like the Jets who will surprise people and win some tough games and cover some spreads down the road and shake up the Eastern Conference standings in the process.

Atlanta Hawks Betting Preview:

Atlanta is off to their first 3-1 start since 2013, the Hawks have also covered the spread in all four games this season. Trae Young has scored at least 29 points in every game this season, he’s covered all his points player prop in every game as well.

The pairing of John Collins and Young is proving to be one of the most underrated duo’s in the game today. While they are overshadowed in the East with duo’s like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro, they are still a formidable tandem. Adding Clint Capela last season was a huge step in the right direction for the Hawks too as he averages 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. Even though they lost, Collins and Young combined for 60 points, 12 assists and 16 rebounds in the first game against the Nets.

Cleveland vs. Atlanta Betting Odds & Lines:

MyBookie has opened the odds set at Hawks -6, moneyline at Hawks -240 and an over under of 229.5.

The Hawks have covered every spread thrown their way this season, but I expect the Cavs to pull off a cover in this matchup, I still take Hawks moneyline but expect a backdoor cover by the Cavs..
