A lucky many from Kentucky can now retire and enjoy his huge prize after winning a $2 million Powerball jackpot this week.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, managed to match the first five numbers during the drawing that took place on December 26 and get the prize worth $1 million. However, since he paid another $1 for a Power Play, this enabled him to win a prize that’s two times larger than the original.
The numbers that the lucky winner managed to guess right were 10, 24, 27, 35, and 53. If he had managed to match the Powerball as well, which was 18, he would have won a total of $341 million. Still, winning $2 million is something that can turn one’s life around completely.
According to the PR released for Whas11, the man said that he had thought he had had a heart attack after getting the number right. After paying the taxes, the final check was $1.4 million. The convenience store referred to as Max Fuel Xpress in Kentucky, also won a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Plans for the Future
The lucky winner, who lives in Caldwell County, KY, had retired only to rejoin the workforce three years ago. However, the lucky prize will now allow him to retire once again and spend more time with his family. What is particularly interesting is that the lucky player always used the same numbers for the drawing and that he has been playing them for years. It seems that this strategy worked for him, as he managed to secure a huge amount of money with his latest lottery haul.
The winner used the numbers from a movie that he watched a long time ago, where one of the characters wins a jackpot using the very same numbers that he used for this particular winning ticket. However, the winner couldn’t remember the name of the movie, and Google didn’t display any results with a movie where a character uses those numbers to win a lottery.
Powerball One of the Biggest National Lottery Games
The Powerball jackpot is currently $410 million. It means that a lucky winner can retire forever if they manage to win such a prize. Powerball is the most popular lottery game in the US, next to Mega Millions. The tickets are now available in 45 states in addition to Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia and can be found in most major convenience stores.
In order to win a jackpot, a player needs to match all the five numbers that are drawn (1 to 69). Moreover, they also need to match the Powerball, which is 1 – 26. The odds of getting all the numbers right are 1 in 292.2 million, and the odds of getting all five right without the Powerball is 1 in 11.7 million, meaning the man from Kentucky got really lucky. Lottery drawings take place twice a week — every Wednesday and Saturday.
