The Golden Nugget brand, owned by billionaire Tilman Fertitta has been consistently expanding throughout the year. With the immediate success of the Illinois sports betting market, it makes perfect sense that Fertitta would want to bring his GNOG offering to the Prairie State.
The deal comes with the caveat that Golden Nugget will commit to $30 million to the Danville Development company for the construction of the casino. Following this, GNOG will have market access for 20 years.
“Wilmot is pleased to deliver Golden Nugget and GNOG to the City of Danville and is excited to partner with Tilman J. Fertitta,” said James A. Wilmot, Vice President of Wilmot. “The Golden Nugget is a nationally recognized brand and strengthens the submission, provides additional opportunities, and upgrades the overall project. The Wilmot family would also like to personally acknowledge the efforts and support of the City Council and Mayor of Danville, IL; without their diligence and attention to detail this project would not be possible.”
The casino will bring the GNOG to Illinois, add another retail sportsbook in the state, and will be host to the Landry’s Steakhouse, also owned by Fertitta.
“This is Golden Nugget’s first joint venture on a casino project, and we are honored to be the one selected amongst numerous bidders for this opportunity by the Wilmot family after a highly competitive process,” said Tilman J. Fertitta, owner and CEO of Golden Nugget and GNOG. “Having the ability to grow the Golden Nugget brand in Illinois in both the online and land based markets is an exciting opportunity.”
Danville now joins a long list of cities to have a Golden Nugget casino, including Las Vegas, Lake Charles, Atlantic City, Biloxi, and Laughlin. Fertitta continues to be a staple in the legal gambling arena in several markets across the country.
