As Expected, Conor McGregor is Big Favorite in Jake Paul Boxing Match

Jake Paul Vs Conor McGregor

  • Conor McGregor has opened as a -400 betting favorite in a hypothetical boxing match against Jake Paul.
  • Paul has been repeatedly calling out McGregor in social media.
  • UFC President Dana White has “offered” women’s champ champ Amanda Nunes to fight Paul.

If by any chance Conor McGregor takes up Jake Paul on his call out, the UFC’s former two-division champion is the betting favorite to beat the YouTube star in a boxing match. That is obvious and expected. But if you think that the betting lines would be lopsided in favor of the Irishman, think again.

Online sportsbook MyBookie.ag is the first to come up with the betting lines for the hypothetical matchup. According the site, the Notorious is the -400 odds on favorite in a boxing match. Paul meanwhile, came back as the +300 underdog when the lines were opened. Seriously?

If you think that fight is happening after McGregor’s January 23 bout against Dustin Poirier, you might want to make that bet right now because there’s no way in hell that Jake Paul has a 25% chance of beating one of the best strikers in MMA who also won a legit three rounds against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a professional boxing match.

MMA’s Biggest Pay Per View Star

Conor McGregor needs no introduction. The Notorious One captured the imagination of MMA fans when he arrived in the UFC Octagon. Carrying a powerful left hand and a gift of gab never before seen, McGregor rose to fame with his 13-second demolition of Jose Aldo to win the UFC featherweight title. He would beat Eddie Alvarez to win a second weight class but not only was McGregor winning inside the cage but also outside of it.

McGregor’s last six PPV events in the UFC have grossed at least 1.2M PPV buys, including the MMA record of 2.4M PPV buys for UFC 229 where he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov. But what stands out about McGregor is his ability to cross over to boxing. In 2017, he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing bout and although he lost that by TKO, the fight generated an incredible 4.3M PPV buys, the second most in the history of combat sports.

The Irishman is set to fight Dustin Poirier on January 23rd and he previously announced another crossover boxing bout against Filipino ring legend Manny Pacquiao. However, nothing is set in stone after the Poirier fight. Knowing McGregor’s penchant for publicity and big money fights, who knows what he will do next.

Wild Video Call Out

YouTube star Jake Paul has been calling out several MMA fighters since his sensational knockout win over former NBA slam dunk champion Nate Robinson. But while he has mentioned several names already, Conor McGregor’s name seems to be on top of his list, and for the right reasons. Most recently, he made a wild ( and desperate?) video call out to catch McGregor’s attention. So far though, he’s not heard anything from the Notorious.

Jake Paul first ventured into the sport of boxing when he fought YouTube star Deji in a white-collar boxing match in the undercard of Logan Paul vs KSI in February 2018. Paul won that bout via fifth round TKO after Deji’s corner threw in the towel. Jake Paul’s first professional boxing bout came against fellow YouTuber AnEson Gib. That bout was the co-main event of Demetrius Andrade vs Luke Keeler in Miami. Jake Paul won that bout by first round TKO.

Then last month, Jake Paul fought in the co-main event of the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. exhibition match. He faced former NBA player Nate Robinson who was fighting in his first ever boxing bout. Jake Paul brutally knocked out Robinson in the second round. As it stands, Jake Paul is 2-0 with two knockouts as a professional boxer.

The Lioness is In

Paul’s explicit messages have not been just aimed at McGregor but also to UFC President Dana White who spared some time to reply to Paul’s desperate moves and outrageous $50M offer. According to White, he’s thinking of letting Jake Paul fight UFC women’s champ-champ Amanda Nunes instead.

Not long after, Nunes joined the fray and posted on social media that she’s willing to fight Jake Paul. Although that sounds more ridiculous than McGregor facing Jake Paul, Nunes is dead serious about it and if by some stroke of luck that fight happens, Jake Paul will have his hands full with the Lioness who is one of the best strikers the women’s game has ever seen.

Jake Paul though doesn’t seem to be thrilled about fighting Nunes. His eyes remain on the prize and that’s McGregor. It’s uncertain where this back and forth on social media will lead to but if McGregor does oblige, the Irishman is going to shut Jake Paul’s pie hole like never before. Wanna bet on that? Go make that wager before Mac becomes too pricey.
