Bellator MMA is now widely considered to be one of the biggest and best mixed martial arts promotions in the world. Over the past decade, this promotion has signed a huge number of world-class talent. Many of these fighters have recently been let go. A list of Bellator fighters cut from the roster has just been released.
Some fans are surprised to see some of the names on this list. It appears Bellator is now looking for ways to cut down on costs. Today, we’ll talk about which fighters are no longer associated with this promotion.
Let’s get into it!
Mousasi vs. Lima Takes Place Tomorrow Night!
Bellator, like all other sports leagues around the United States, was shut down back in March. It wasn’t until July that the promotion began hosting fight cards again. Bellator has been putting on events throughout Europe and is now back in the US with several exciting cards scheduled over the next few weeks.
Perhaps the biggest Bellator fight of the year is scheduled to take place tomorrow night. This is a super fight between Gegard Mousasi and Douglas Lima. The winner will be declared the new middleweight champion of the world.
Mousasi is a former middleweight champion in his own right. He lost the title in a close decision to Rafael Lovato Jr. back in June of 2019 but bounced back with an impressive win over Lyoto Machida. Sites like Bovada now list Mousasi as the -170 favorite to reclaim the title tomorrow.
Douglas Lima has been one of Bellator’s best fighters since 2011. He captured the promotion’s welterweight championship in October of last year. He’s now listed as the +140 underdog to win the middleweight belt against Gegard.
This is expected to be a fantastic event. The co-main event between Henry Corrales and Brandon Girtz could determine one of the next men to fight for the featherweight title. Feel free to head over to Bovada today to see all of the odds being offered on the card!
News has just come out that shows a huge number of Bellator fighters have been released.
Here’s a List of Bellator Fighters Cut From the Promotion
As we already mentioned, Bellator is now home to some of the best fighters on the planet. In recent months, this promotion has worked hard to sign young, up-and-coming talent, as well. As more fighters join the roster, more are being forced to leave, as well.
This week, a list was released that shows the Bellator fighters cut from the roster. Many are astounded to see some of the names on this list. It includes some of the promotion’s biggest stars. Below is a list of some of the most noteworthy names.
- Joe Warren
- Ricky Bandejas
- Frank Mir
- Roy Nelson
- Derek Campos
- AJ Agazarm
- Joe Schilling
These are just a few of the names on this list. In total, 28 fighters on the roster have been cut. Most view this as a way for Bellator to cut down on costs. Most of these fighters are riding losing streaks and will now be up for free agency.
It’s disappointing to see that some of these fighters have been let go. There are several men here that are still fighting at a very high level and could make a splash in other promotions. It will be interesting to see where these athletes end up.
We may see more of these roster cuts take place over the next few months. Bellator is holding a limited number of events and it’s unclear how many viewers these cards are drawing in. Stay tuned for any updates!
